Emilia-Romagna

We stayed in a city called Parma. We arrived late and headed to the supermarket. We then met our Airbnb host who showed us to his spare room before heading to dinner. We chatted with his house mate for a bit. The classic ‘sorry I don’t speak much English’ but yet he still speaks significantly more English than I do Italian so I feel bad. Generally I’ve been very impressed with the amount non-English speakers can speak of English. In general people on the continent speak so many more languages than anyone in Britain.

We made some dinner and idly chatted for a while. You could just about see the thunder in the mountains from the balcony which was pretty cool. The next morning we took advantage of our host’s generosity and stayed till just before noon. We then dashed off to grab our train out. It would have been nice to see more of Parma than the bus route to our flat but at least I got to role play the life of someone living in Italy for a night. I’ve also now managed to cover ever night of my trip that is left. A nice stress load off and also allows for a more effective budget in the next 10 days (hard to believe it’s coming to a close).

We took the train out and had a brief stop over in Bologna. It’s a nice city with some cool stuff just near the station. I hope I can come back and explore this region of Italy again at some point – proper Ferrari country. Between Imola and Maranello I could be entertained with just that. The more time I spend in Italy the more I don’t want to leave. My new plan for my next trip will be start from Sicily and explore all of this amazing country. Ideally in an Italian car. New dreams aside, I now turn my attention to the sights of Tuscany.
