Life in Lyon

A comfortable high speed journey got us into Lyon around late evening. We headed to our Airbnb, had a bit of dinner, tried to buy some booze (apparently store policy is no sale after 9), Flora messed her foot again. The usual. Then we headed to a nearby pub. We’d come to Lyon mostly to see a friend. Siobhan moved to Lyon a week or so ago for her year abroad (also mech eng, it might not seem like it but I promise I know people outside of my degree). We met up with her and her new group of friends all from universities across Europe. There was also another guy called Luke from Sheffield who I’d met a few times. Small world.

Day two started with my panic that the Eurostar was almost entirely booked up. Thankfully I managed to find me and Lawrence a train for 8am from Paris. So yes, it can be confirmed now – I will be returning home.

After my stress we headed to the old town and walked through Lyon. It’s a really beautiful city it has to be said. Apparently it’s the food capital of the world according to Siobhan – who knows, I think that might be more down to opinion (personally I prefer Thai food).

I don’t have much to say about Lyon really. It was very hot – we mostly walked around and sat and chatted. It’s the last time many of us will be together for some time. This being the point of my trip where we split once again. Chris and Niamh are off home in a couple days whilst Flora heads to Eastern Europe. And then of course Siobhan has now left for her own adventure. It was ultimately just nice to hang out together I guess. I think as well many of us were simply in need of some recharge now time.

In the evening we went back to the Airbnb and had our dinner. I went for a walk with Flora. The others watched tele. Then I promptly fell asleep watching tele when I returned. First thing in the morning me and Lawrence left for our train. We’re off to Lake Como for a couple nights but first we have to travel through Switzerland – which is an experience in itself I think.
